CBL-514: Research, Published Evidence & Product Guide

A guide to the CBL-514 research programme, how to read the published findings, and the documentation to review when assessing laboratory products.

What is CBL-514?

CBL-514 is an investigational small-molecule lipolysis drug candidate, with reported DYRK1B-inhibitory activity.

The 2022 paper links DYRK1B inhibition to caspase-3 and Bax/Bcl-2 signalling in sponsor-reported nonclinical work. This describes a proposed adipocyte-apoptosis mechanism, rather than demonstrated human target engagement. Read the Phase 2a paper.

What does the published evidence show?

Phase 2: abdominal subcutaneous fat

The 2025 randomised, single-blind, placebo-controlled trial enrolled 76 participants. Ultrasound was used to assess changes in abdominal fat thickness and volume. At eight weeks after the final treatment, 69.6% of CBL-514-treated participants reached the study's threshold of at least 150 mL fat-volume reduction, compared with none receiving placebo. The most common adverse events were injection-site reactions, generally mild or moderate. [2]

Phase 3: a registered follow-up programme

Health Canada's registry lists protocol CBL-0301 as a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 3 study. The record links to ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT07140939. Its overall status was listed as recruiting when checked on 29 October 2026. A trial registration describes planned research; it is not a published result. [6]

Conditions and applications under development

  • Localised subcutaneous fat reduction: clinical studies assess fat volume and thickness in targeted areas, including the abdomen. [2]
  • Dercum's disease (adiposis dolorosa): a published Phase 2a study examined lipoma volume and pain in this disorder of painful fatty growths. These are two names for the same condition. [3]
  • Cellulite: The study sponsor has reported Phase 2 results from its CBL-0201EFP programme. [4]
  • Obesity and weight management: the sponsor has announced a Phase 2 development programme evaluating CBL-514 alongside a GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist in people with obesity or overweight. This is an investigational application. [5]

Clinical programmes may use different formulations. The study sponsor distinguishes CBL-514D, a formulation with the same active ingredients under development for Dercum's disease. Study results describe the specific formulation and conditions investigated. [5]

How to interpret these findings

For a useful comparison, keep the study question, endpoint and follow-up period together. Local fat-volume measurements answer a different question from changes in total body weight. Do not treat those measures as interchangeable.

Evidence limits

The cited clinical studies do not verify the identity, quality, safety or effectiveness of the separately supplied EPW product. Clinical equivalence is not claimed. Product-specific conclusions require product-specific evidence.

When reviewing a paper, check the sample size, comparator, blinding, analysis population, follow-up, adverse events and funding disclosures. Consider whether the reported result addresses your research question and whether the experimental product is adequately characterised for that purpose.

A practical document review

  1. Match the material. Compare the product name, SKU, labelled quantity and batch identifier across the listing, package and supporting documents.
  2. Check the scope of any report. Identify the sample, method, measured result and date. Do not use a report for another batch as evidence for the one being assessed.
  3. Record missing information. A labelled quantity is not itself an analytical measurement. Resolve information gaps before drawing experimental conclusions.
  4. Retain traceability. Keep receiving records and the documents used in your assessment with the laboratory's material records.

Common questions

Is CBL-514 a peptide?

The cited clinical paper describes CBL-514 as a small-molecule drug candidate. Its presence in a research supplier's catalogue does not change that classification. [2]

Does the 20 mg label establish equivalence to the trial formulation?

No. A quantity on a product label does not establish the identity, formulation or clinical equivalence of the supplied product. Those questions require appropriate documentation and evidence.

Where can I find the product's testing information?

See the testing-status section of the CBL-514 product page for the current batch information.
